Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra to Perform Benefit Concerts at Hollywood Bowl on June 24-25, 2026
The venue’s historic ties to the choir run back to July 28, 1926, when an estimated 17,000 to 18,000 listeners filled the grounds for the choir’s debut performance. Subsequent appearances in 1941 and 1963 cemented the relationship, and the 1926 press described the arrival of the singers on “three special trains.” This year’s tour marks the first time the choir has relied on aircraft to reach the iconic amphitheater.
Set to take place on the John Williams Stage, famed for its nested arches, the concerts will showcase a lineup of guest artists, including Donny Osmond, David Foster, Katharine McPhee, Stephanie J. Block, Sebastian Arcelus, and the Bonner family. The choir and orchestra are currently rehearsing on the stage in anticipation of the “Songs of Hope” benefit concerts.
The event will not be livestreamed; instead, the choir has invited stakes across the United States—excluding Utah—to host free watch parties on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27. Many of these locations are asking attendees to reserve seats in advance.
The concerts are organized in partnership with the O.C. Tanner Gift of Music Trust. The choir has performed in O.C. Tanner concerts since 1983, beginning with the Tabernacle Choir and Utah Symphony. The series was conceived by Obert C. Tanner and former Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints (LDS) Apostle Gordon B. Hinckley to promote community unity, funded by an endowment from Tanner and his wife, Grace Tanner.
Tickets are sold through the Hollywood Bowl website, and all proceeds will be donated to charities such as CARE, Helen Keller International, and The Hunger Project. These organizations work with Caring for Women and Children, an initiative led by the LDS Relief Society that focuses on improving the health, education, and well‑being of women and children worldwide. The Church will match the revenue from ticket sales, effectively doubling the charitable contribution from the event.
President Lloyd Newell, who hosted the weekly “Music & the Spoken Word” program for 35 years, said the concerts will be a “great boost to the area and the missions.” He added that “everyone that comes to this concert will be strengthened and blessed.” Sister Karmel Newell, former director of member support before her mission call, said audience members “feel the Spirit and their hearts are softened.” The Newells, who lead the California Los Angeles Mission of the LDS Church, encourage missionaries to invite friends, recent members, and others to attend in person or at a local watch party.
Tabernacle Choir President Michael O. Leavitt described the Hollywood Bowl stop as “unique in that it includes the entire United States” and likely the largest event of the world tour. He noted that the concert series has previously reached audiences in Mexico (2023), the Philippines, Florida and Georgia (2024), Peru and Argentina (2025), and Brazil (February 2026). The choir will take a short break after this stop to participate in events for the Salt Lake Temple celebration and open house in 2027, and it is planning further tours in 2028.
The choir’s mission statement is: “The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square performs music that inspires people throughout the world to draw closer to the divine and feel God’s love for His children.” The upcoming Hollywood Bowl concerts continue that mission while supporting global charitable causes.
At present, the choir and orchestra are rehearsing on the Hollywood Bowl stage, the benefit concerts are scheduled for June 24 and 25, and ticket sales are open through the venue’s website. The event will be followed by the choir’s participation in the Salt Lake Temple celebration in 2027 and further touring plans for 2028.
