Criterions The Complete Kubrick Set to Release Oct. 20, 2026
The $599.95 collection contains Kubrick’s three early short documentaries—"Day of the Fight" (1951, original and RKO versions), "Flying Padre" (1952) and "The Seafarers" (1953)—alongside his thirteen feature films:
Fear and Desire (1952) Killer’s Kiss (1955) The Killing (1956) Paths of Glory (1957) Spartacus (1960) Lolita (1962) Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) A Clockwork Orange (1971) Barry Lyndon (1975) The Shining (1980, both theatrical and international versions) Full Metal Jacket (1987) * Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Every title has been restored to 4K resolution and remastered with a new 5.1 surround mix, preserving Kubrick’s original soundtrack while delivering audio quality never before available on home video.
Beyond the restored features, the set offers a wealth of context. A new 4K restoration of Vivian Kubrick’s behind‑the‑scenes documentary "Making The Shining" is included, along with freshly recorded commentary tracks from filmmaker Lee Unkrich—editor of the book Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining—and author Michael Benson, who wrote Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, and the Making of a Masterpiece.
Other extras feature rare short films from Graphic Films and computer‑animation pioneer John Whitney that inspired the special effects in 2001: A Space Odyssey; unseen screen tests for Lolita with James Mason and Sue Lyon; rare behind‑the‑scenes footage from Full Metal Jacket; a conversation with novelist Jonathan Lethem and film historian Kevin Wynter on Kubrick and authorship; and a printed essay by author and critic Nathaniel Rich.
"The Complete Kubrick took two years to achieve, but as Kubrick fans know, one’s relationship with his films never truly ends," said Criterion producer Michael Chaiken. "It was an honor to be asked to produce this set and an enormous responsibility: to the fans, to the Kubrick estate, and ultimately to Kubrick himself, whose commitment to the presentation of his work remained constant throughout his life. To that end, Criterion consulted Kubrick’s closest collaborators, archival experts, and the studios that have stewarded his films across generations, ensuring that these works look and sound better than they ever have on home video. As the set’s many interviews and documentaries reveal, behind Kubrick’s darkly comic vision is a world of family, friends and enduring creative relationships that speak to the humanist center of this singular body of work."
Criterion also announced plans for a limited collection of Kubrick‑inspired merchandise and a dedicated playlist on its YouTube channel. The playlist will explore Kubrick’s films, creative process, collaborators and legacy, offering viewers a behind‑the‑scenes look at the making of The Complete Kubrick.
This release marks the first time all of Kubrick’s films are available together in a single, high‑quality collection. The set is poised to appeal to collectors, scholars and new audiences alike.
The Criterion Collection has long been a leader in film restoration and scholarly presentation. Its releases are distributed in the United States by Alliance Entertainment, in the United Kingdom by Spirit Entertainment, and in Canada by Unobstructed View.
With the October 20 launch, fans and researchers will have at their fingertips a comprehensive, restored archive of one of cinema’s most influential directors, accompanied by extensive contextual material that expands on Kubrick’s artistic vision and legacy.
