The 66th TV Week Logie Awards have just unveiled a fresh twist to the ceremony: a brand‑new honour in the name of veteran sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney. The announcement also names former wildlife host Robert Irwin as the event’s presenter.

The awards, which will be held on Sunday 16 August 2026 at The Star in Sydney, will be broadcast live on Channel Seven and streamed on 7Plus. The new Bruce McAvaney Award for Most Popular Sports Presenter will recognise the most prominent sports commentator on Australian television, a fitting tribute to McAvaney’s long‑standing voice of the game.

McAvaney himself is a nominee, joining a field that includes Danika Mason (Today, NRL and Freddy and the Eighth, 9Network), Eddie McGuire (Footy Classified Tuesday and 2025 Melbourne Cup Carnival, 9Network), James Bracey (9News, Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, NRL, 2025 Australian Open, 2025 Melbourne Cup, 100% Footy and 2025 Australian Swimming Trials, 9Network), Jelena Dokic (9Network) and Ricky Ponting (Seven Network). The award underscores McAvaney’s status as the voice of Australian sport.

The most coveted prize, the Gold Logie, sees a diverse group of nominees: host and journalist Ally Langdon, presenter and comedian Julia Morris, journalist‑presenter Lisa Millar, judge and co‑host Poh Ling Yeow, presenter Robert Irwin, comedian‑presenter Sam Pang and host‑presenter Todd Woodbridge. TV Week Editorial Director Amber Giles noted that the list reflects the breadth of Australian television, from free‑to‑air staples to streaming hits.
