Taskmasters 21st Season Wraps Up With Joanna Pages Victory as Season 22 Cast is Announced
Creator Alex Horne, who also serves as the Taskmaster’s assistant, announced that the next series will feature a fresh five‑piece lineup: Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie, Matt Lucas, Nina Conti and Richard Ayoade. Channel 4 confirmed the cast on the same day, noting that the new comedians will be tested by Greg Davies and Horne. While an official air date has not yet been released, the series is slated to begin in the autumn of 2026 and will be available on Channel 4’s platform as well as on the Taskmaster YouTube channel.
Taskmaster’s roots trace back to a one‑off performance at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, and it has since evolved into a global comedy staple. Horne has said that the show’s family‑friendly appeal “started in COVID lockdown” when audiences were looking for content that could be enjoyed by parents, grandparents, teenagers and children alike. The programme expanded during the pandemic with a #HomeTasking series and launched a Junior Taskmaster spin‑off in 2024.
Season 21, which ran from 9 April to 11 June, featured five comedians: Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joanna Page, Joel Dommett and Kumail Nanjiani. The finale was celebrated by fans on the official Taskmaster YouTube channel, where the episode’s final moments were replayed and discussed. The show’s core format—five celebrities completing a series of quirky challenges while the Taskmaster awards points—has remained unchanged.
Earlier this year, the series toured the United States, delivering sold‑out shows that included guests such as Seth Meyers and John Oliver. The American tour helped cement Taskmaster’s international appeal and introduced new audiences to the show’s distinctive blend of humor and physical comedy.
Beyond the studio, Horne has balanced his work with family life. He was seen driving home to watch the World Cup opening ceremony with his three sons, aged 13, 15 and 17, and said he enjoys watching the event together with them. The family has also listened to the musical Hamilton in the car and occasionally watches movies such as Project Hail Mary and Steven Spielberg titles. Although his sons do not watch Taskmaster, they have helped test tasks at home.
The Taskmaster franchise has grown into a multi‑platform brand. In addition to the television series, there is a tie‑in board game, two books, a virtual‑reality experience and a live‑event format. International versions have been commissioned in countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada and the United States, and the show is scheduled to continue through Series 27, slated for 2029.
In summary, Taskmaster’s 21st season concluded with a family‑friendly winner, and the 22nd season’s cast has been announced, setting the stage for a new chapter in the show’s long‑running run. Fans can expect the autumn series to air on Channel 4 and YouTube, while the franchise continues to expand with spin‑offs, merchandise and international adaptations.
