Denmarks First 270-Degree Panoramic SCREENX Auditorium Opens at ATLAS Biograferne in Rdovre
The auditorium’s design places the audience at the center of the action. SCREENX projects the film image onto the main screen and continues it onto the side walls, giving viewers a 270‑degree field of view. The 76‑seat room is located at Rødovre Centrum 96, 2610 Rødovre, Denmark, and is the first venue in the country to use the format.
ATLAS Biograferne was founded in 2013 by owners Emil and Marie Mark Nørholm. The cinema has grown to seven screens and was reported to have the highest growth rate in Denmark in 2025. The owners have positioned the chain as a provider of premium cinema experiences, and the introduction of SCREENX is described as a new chapter in that mission. The company has previously focused on high‑quality programming and has been a frequent venue for international releases.
CJ 4DPLEX is a subsidiary of the Korean conglomerate CJ Group. The company designs and licenses immersive cinema technologies, including 4DX and SCREENX, to exhibitors worldwide. As of 2022, SCREENX was installed in 364 screens across 37 countries. In Denmark, CJ 4DPLEX already operates 4DX auditoriums in partnership with Nordisk Film Cinemas at Aarhus Bio, Lyngby Kinopalæet, and Field’s in Copenhagen. The new SCREENX partnership expands the company’s footprint in the Nordic region.
The launch of the auditorium is part of a broader strategy to bring premium, immersive formats to markets that have not yet adopted them. According to the press release, the collaboration will allow Danish audiences to experience films in a way that has previously been available only in a handful of countries, such as the United States, Japan, and the Philippines. The format’s ability to extend visuals onto the walls is expected to enhance the emotional impact of action, adventure, and fantasy titles.
While the announcement did not specify a schedule for programming, industry observers note that the first films shown in SCREENX in other markets have included major blockbusters and high‑budget productions. The new auditorium will likely follow a similar pattern, offering a mix of Hollywood releases and Danish productions that have been adapted for the format.
The opening of the SCREENX auditorium marks a milestone for Denmark’s cinema sector, adding a new premium option for moviegoers in the Copenhagen area. The partnership between ATLAS Biograferne and CJ 4DPLEX demonstrates the continued expansion of immersive technologies in European markets and sets the stage for future developments in the industry.
As the Danish market welcomes its first panoramic cinema experience, the industry will watch how the format performs in terms of attendance, revenue, and audience reception. The success of the Rødovre venue could influence other Danish exhibitors to consider similar upgrades, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape for premium cinema in the country.
