WIT Studios One Piece Remake Set for Netflix Release in 2027, Producer Hints at Future Seasons
The remake follows the 1999 Toei Animation series and the 2023 Netflix live‑action adaptation, both of which expanded the franchise’s reach. WIT Studio is working in partnership with Shueisha, Fuji Television and Toei Animation, and the finished product will be distributed worldwide by Netflix.
Founded in 2012 as a subsidiary of IG Port, WIT Studio has earned a reputation for detailed animation and strong character work on titles such as Attack on Titan, Spy × Family, Vinland Saga and Ranking of Kings. President George Wada, who has overseen those projects, said during a panel at Anime Expo 2026: "First of all, we are so honored to be working on this project. Of course, everybody knows that the original manga is just massive. So we'd really like to work on this and make it really great." He added, "Our goal right now at the moment is to create season one as fulfilling as possible for the audience. So we are currently completely focused on the first season of the series. We just have to make sure that it sets sail right, and then we can all enjoy it together with the fans from all over the world."
While Wada stopped short of announcing a second season, his emphasis on the scope of the project and the use of the word "season" rather than a limited run suggest that further adaptations are planned. The first season, which will run for roughly 300 minutes total, covers the East Blue saga up to Luffy’s arrival at the floating restaurant Baratie, where he meets Sanji. Key events such as the battle with Arlong, which occur later in the manga, will therefore be reserved for subsequent seasons.
Adapting the East Blue arc in a single season aligns with WIT Studio’s strategy of delivering high‑quality, tightly paced storytelling. The studio’s track record in handling complex narratives—demonstrated in its recent work on Vinland Saga and Ranking of Kings—positions it well to balance fidelity to the source material with its own artistic vision.
Industry observers note that the remake’s release on Netflix marks a significant expansion of the streaming platform’s anime library. Netflix has previously partnered with Shueisha on the live‑action series and is now extending that relationship to the animated medium.
The original One Piece manga, serialized since 1997, has become one of the best‑selling comic series worldwide, with over 600 million copies in circulation as of March 2026. The franchise’s breadth—spanning films, spin‑offs and merchandise—has made it a cultural touchstone.
As the remake approaches its scheduled launch, fans will be watching to see how WIT Studio balances fidelity to Oda’s work with its own creative approach. Wada’s commitment to a "fulfilling" first season suggests a cautious but ambitious strategy.
In summary, WIT Studio’s One Piece remake will debut on Netflix in February 2027, covering the first 50 chapters in seven double‑length episodes. Producer George Wada has confirmed the studio’s focus on delivering a high‑quality first season and has hinted that the project will continue beyond its initial run. The remake’s release underscores Netflix’s growing investment in anime and the enduring popularity of the One Piece franchise.
