Solo Leveling Anime Series to Continue with Full-Length Film Beyond the System Announced at Anime Expo 2026
The film will pick up the story where season 2, Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadow, left off. No release date has been set, and the project remains in the production phase. A concept video and a set of key art images were released alongside the announcement, giving fans a first visual glimpse of the upcoming movie.
Solo Leveling began as a web novel serialized on KakaoPage in 2016 and was later adapted into a webtoon in 2018. The anime television series, produced by A‑1 Pictures, aired its first season from January to March 2024 and a second season, subtitled Arise from the Shadow, from January to March 2025. The series follows Sung Jinwoo, a hunter who gains the ability to level up after a dangerous encounter, transforming from the world’s weakest hunter into a powerful force.
The film’s production is a collaboration between A‑1 Pictures, the studio behind titles such as Sword Art Online, and several partners: Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll. Director Tao Tajima will oversee the project and also serve as director of photography, editor, and colorist, according to industry reports.
Beyond the anime, the Solo Leveling franchise has expanded into other media. A Korean drama adaptation is in development, with Byeon Woo‑seok cast as Sung Jinwoo and Han So‑hee as Cha Hae‑in. A spin‑off webtoon, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, premiered in July 2024, and a role‑playing video game, Solo Leveling: Arise, was released by Netmarble.
At this time, the film remains in production with no announced release window. Fans can currently access the two‑season anime on Crunchyroll, and the concept video and key art provide a preview of the film’s visual style. The project’s next milestones will likely include a full production schedule, a release date announcement, and promotional material leading up to its eventual premiere.
The announcement underscores Crunchyroll’s continued investment in the Solo Leveling franchise and the broader trend of adapting successful web novels and webtoons into anime films. As the series progresses, the studio’s partnership with Korean creators and international distributors positions the franchise for a global audience.
